Spanish soprano Dr. Maria-Dolores Campos enjoys a successful international career especially in her interpretations of Spanish Music. Her impeccable reputation for musical and coloratura excellence in her opera interpretations has earned vast acclaim in roles such as Oscar in Un ballo in Maschera, Micaela in Carmen, Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro or Anina in l’Elisir d’Amore, as well as principal roles in The Magic Flute or Don Giovanni. "The portrayal of the page Oscar was a delight. She produced a well rounded character, moving well and commanding the stage with her presence and singing the role with bright tone and panache" says the SRV of London. Dr. Campos has performed with companies such as English National Opera and with the Spanish National Radio & Television Chorus and Orchestra, among others.
Dr. Campos has performed in prestigious European Concert Halls in Spain, England, Italy, Scotland, France, Ireland and Finland, at Saint John’s Smith Square, Saint Martin in the Fields, The Royal Festival Hall in London, King’s College School, Downing College and Peterhouse Theatre in Cambridge, Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh, Fundación Juan March in Madrid, Teatro Calderón and Teatro Carrión in Valladolid, and has been invited to sing for International Music Festivals like the IV International Festival of Music of Besalú in Gerona, The Finish Kodály International Festival in their Jubileum and The Spanish Franz Liszt Cycle among others.
Her career received the advice of Ileana Cotrubas, Pilar Pinilla, Ellis Keeler, Nina Walker, Junewyn Jones, Patricia McMahon and Christopher Cowell. Dr. Campos was a soloist in Jonathan Hinden’s master class. In Spain she met Pedro Lavirgen and worked closely with him and gets close supervision from Arturo Reverter and Julián Perera.
Dr. Campos has been Stage Manager, Producer’s Assistant and Italian and English Interpreter in operatic productions like The Magic Flute, The Barber of Seville, Orfeo & Euridice, L’Elisir d’Amore and Madame Butterfly among others in prestigious theatres, working with conductors such as Antonino Fogliani, Salvador Mash, Roger Harris, Dennis Knight, Stephen Hope, John Ramster or Giuseppe Mega.
The next professional commitments include the live recording of the Complete Work Songs by Joaquín Rodrigo, Isaac Albéniz, Manuel de Falla and Enrique Granados. For the 2008-2009 season she will carry out a recording with the Solti Chamber Orchestra of Budapest, in the Franz Liszt Academy Concert Hall of Budapest and the Hungarian National Radio as part of their live recordings.
Dr. Campos met the Spanish pianist Carlos Gallardo twenty years ago; they have specialised in Spanish Music and have performed together on many occasions. At the moment they are offering a World Tour. The renowned Spanish writer Don José Jiménez Lozano, winner of the Cervantes Prize in 2002, has accepted to write the lyrics of a Cycle of new Spanish Songs composed by Carlos Gallardo and performed by Dr. Campos.
Dr. María-Dolores Campos carried out her music studies, violin and singing in Spain and obtained first-rate diplomas at the Conservatorio Superior de Música of San Sebastián in Spain.
To complete her musical education she attended advanced courses and master classes in Spain, Italy, England and Scotland. Her teachers were Pilar Pinilla in Spain, Ellis Keeler and Junewyn Jones in England and Patricia MacMahon in Scotland. She has also studied Stage Craft with Christopher Cowell of Glyndebourne, Ballroom Dancing and Make up.
Her other main interest is in opera. In 1991 her international debut was in England as Pamina in The Magic Flute. Since then she has sung solo parts in The Magic Flute, Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, La Traviata, L’Elisir d’Amore, Idomeneo, Un Ballo in Maschera, Carmen and the soprano solo part in Faure’s Requiem.
Dr. Campos has recorded for Herald Label, Spanish Songs by Esplá, Obradors, Mompou, Falla, Granados and Turina and also for the SLKE Live Recordings.
Dr. Campos is author of several books of vocal technique and Spanish music vocal interpretation. She is a regular teacher of the Conservatorio Virtual [www.conservatoriovirtual.com].
She speaks Spanish English, French and Italian. She also sings in German and Hungarian. She moved to England in 1992.
